20 kg Carbon dioxide CO₂ - B30 - steel
A carbon dioxide (CO₂) B30 gas cylinder is a large, heavy industrial gas cylinder with a water capacity of approximately 30 liters, filled with 20 kg of liquid CO₂. This cylinder is manufactured from heavy-duty, high-quality steel and is designed for applications where a very high gas demand and a long usage duration are essential.
As with all CO₂ cylinders, the gas is stored under saturated vapor pressure (approximately 50-60 bar at room temperature). No porous mass is required, as the gas is stored stably in liquid form. Due to the significant weight of the contents (20 kg) and the heavy steel housing, this size is primarily used in stationary settings or in situations where mechanical aids for transport are available.
Key features:
- High capacity: The B30 cylinder is the industrial standard for large-scale use. With 20 kg of CO₂, the number of cylinder swaps is minimal, which is crucial for uninterrupted processes.
- Industrial robustness: The thick-walled steel construction is designed to withstand harsh conditions in production environments and professional installations over the long term.
- Applications: Widely used in heavy industry (MAG welding), small-to-medium-scale dry ice cleaning equipment, and industrial cooling systems.

Transport
Transport:
- Fixation: Due to the weight and dimensions, proper fixation with professional ratchet straps at two heights in the vehicle is mandatory.
- ADR regulations: For commercial transport, this size (partly due to the total weight of the filled cylinder) almost always falls under the relevant transport legislation (ADR). Ensure you have the correct documentation and safety equipment (fire extinguisher).
Information
Safety
Specific safety information for the B30 (Steel)
- Always upright: Usage and transport must take place strictly in an upright position. The enormous amount of liquid CO₂ in this cylinder makes the consequences of horizontal use even more severe; when the valve is opened, liquid can flow into the regulator, immediately leading to freezing and serious damage to the system.
- Mechanical assistance required: Due to the high dead weight and the 20 kg fill, it is physically heavy and dangerous to move the B30 manually. Always use a robust cylinder hand truck or a pallet jack.
- Freezing risk & preheating: With a cylinder of this size, the chance of the valve freezing during continuous withdrawal is very high. The use of a pressure regulator with an electric heating element is almost always necessary with this model to ensure a constant gas flow and to prevent valve freezing.
- Great risk in case of leakage: A 20 kg CO₂ cylinder contains a massive mass of gas. An unnoticed leak in a confined space will very quickly bring oxygen displacement to a critical level. Permanent CO₂ detection with an alarm function is strongly recommended in rooms where a B30 cylinder is located.
