37.5 kg Carbon dioxide CO₂ - B50

A carbon dioxide (CO₂) B50 gas cylinder is a heavy, industrial gas cylinder with a water capacity of 50 liters, filled with 37.5 kg of liquid CO₂. This is the largest common format in the standard cylinder line. The cylinder is manufactured from thick-walled, high-quality steel and is specifically designed for environments with a very high gas demand.

As with all CO₂ cylinders, the gas is stored under saturated vapor pressure (approximately 50-60 bar at room temperature). No porous mass is required; the gas is in a stable liquid state within the steel walls. Due to its significant weight, this cylinder is generally intended for stationary use or for use on a mobile platform.

Important info!

Key features:

  • Maximum capacity: With 37.5 kg of CO₂, this cylinder offers the largest supply in a single unit, which is ideal for processes that require an uninterrupted, long-term supply.
  • Industrial standard: The B50 format is the standard for heavy industrial applications where efficiency—achieved by less frequent swapping—is a priority.
  • Applications: Widely used in heavy industry (large MAG welding lines), central CO₂ distribution points, and larger industrial cooling systems.

Transport:

  • ADR Regulations: For commercial transport, this format is subject to strict ADR guidelines. Ensure you have the correct transport document ("UN 1013, Carbon Dioxide, 2.2") and the required safety equipment (fire extinguisher).
  • Fixation: The cylinder must be secured in the vehicle using a certified rack and ratchet straps at a minimum of two heights. Due to the high center of gravity, lateral displacement during a sharp turn is a real risk if the cylinder is not secured extremely tightly.

Specific safety information for the B50 (Steel)

  • Always upright: It is strictly forbidden to tilt the cylinder or use it in a lying position. With a content of 37.5 kg of liquid, a leak or improper use can cause a massive amount of gas to expand instantly, resulting in the direct risk of the entire regulator installation freezing over.
  • Mechanical transport mandatory: A filled B50 easily weighs between 70 and 85 kg (including the weight of the steel cylinder itself). Never attempt to lift this manually. Use only a robust cylinder hand truck with large wheels or a forklift/stacker.
  • Freezing risk & preheating: For the B50 cylinder, the use of a pressure regulator with a powerful heating element (CO₂ heater) is strictly necessary for almost any form of continuous consumption. Without heating, the valve will immediately freeze and block due to the Joule-Thomson effect.
  • Ventilation & Monitoring: A B50 cylinder is a large source of CO₂. A leak in an enclosed space can lead to a life-threatening concentration. A CO₂ detection system with an alarm is the industrial standard in the storage area and the workplace.
