Nitrogen N₂ - B10
A Nitrogen (N₂) B10 gas cylinder is a medium-sized, industrial gas cylinder with a water capacity of 10 liters, filled with nitrogen under high pressure (200 or 300 bar).
Nitrogen is stored in this cylinder as high-pressure gas. Unlike CO₂, nitrogen does not turn into a liquid in the cylinder at room temperature. As a result, the pressure in the cylinder is a direct indication of the remaining gas quantity: as the cylinder is used, the pressure on the pressure gauge gradually decreases.
Key features:
- Inert (non-reactive): Nitrogen hardly reacts with other substances under normal conditions, making it extremely suitable for preventing oxidation, fires, or explosions.
- Colorless, odorless, and tasteless: The gas cannot be sensed, which means that additional safety measures (such as oxygen alarms) are necessary in confined or small spaces.
- Non-flammable: Nitrogen does not support or feed combustion in any way.
- Asphyxiant (displacing): In high concentrations, the gas displaces the available oxygen, posing a direct risk of suffocation.
- Cylinder color coding (Indication): According to the European standard (EN 1089-3), the shoulder of a nitrogen cylinder is always marked in black.

• Securing: A B10 cylinder is stable, but must always be secured in a cylinder holder or with ratchet straps when transported in a vehicle.
• Safety valve: Ensure the valve is protected by a valve cap during transport. A damaged valve at 200/300 bar is extremely dangerous.
• Storage: Preferably store the cylinders in a dry, ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and large temperature fluctuations.

Specific safety information for Nitrogen (N₂)
• Suffocation hazard (Priority 1): Nitrogen is odorless and colorless. A leak in a closed or poorly ventilated space displaces oxygen unnoticed. Always ensure sufficient ventilation.
• High-pressure system: The cylinder is under enormous pressure (up to 300 bar). Use only an approved pressure regulator suitable for this specific inlet pressure.
• Flexibility in position: Because nitrogen is a gas, the cylinder can, in principle, be used in various positions. However, securing it vertically remains the safety standard to prevent mechanical damage to the valve and falling over.
• No reaction hazard: Nitrogen is non-flammable. This makes it a safe choice near packaging machines and food processing equipment.
