Oxygen O₂ - Food grade - B5
An Oxygen (O₂) B5 gas cylinder is a compact, industrial gas cylinder with a water capacity of 5 liters, filled with oxygen under high pressure (usually 200 bar). This "Foodgrade" version meets the strict purity requirements for use in the food industry, where oxygen is used, for example, in packaging processes under a protective atmosphere (MAP) or for specific oxidation processes.
Unlike inert gases such as nitrogen, oxygen is a highly reactive gas. It is not flammable by itself, but it promotes and accelerates combustion in an extreme manner. The B5 cylinder is handy and mobile, making it ideal for small-scale applications or mobile test setups.
Key features:
- Oxidation & Conversion: Oxygen is used in the food industry to influence biological processes (e.g., maintaining the color of fresh meat in MAP packaging).
- Foodgrade purity: The cylinder and the gas meet the strict hygiene and traceability standards required for contact with food products.
- Compact B5 format: Offers an excellent balance between mobility and a workable supply for small-scale packaging solutions or laboratory applications.
- High-pressure system: Oxygen is stored as a gas under high pressure, which allows for a constant supply via a professional pressure regulator.

Transport
Transport & Use:
- Vertical fixation: The B5 cylinder is compact but must always be secured vertically in a holder to prevent it from falling over and damaging the valve.
- Safety cap: Always use the protective cap during transport. A damaged valve on a 200-bar oxygen cylinder can lead to very dangerous situations due to the massive pressure release.
- Storage: Store the cylinders in a dry, well-ventilated room, strictly separated from flammable gases (such as acetylene or propane) and flammable materials (such as oils and greases).
Information
Safety
Specific safety information for Oxygen (O₂):
- Fire hazard (Critical): Oxygen increases the flammability of almost every material. Even a small leak can cause textiles, grease, or lubricants to spontaneously ignite. Keep the area around the oxygen cylinder absolutely free of grease and oil.
- Work grease-free: Never use grease or oil on the valve or pressure regulator. In contact with high-pressure oxygen, this can lead to explosive combustion (oxygen explosion).
- Ventilation: Ensure a well-ventilated room. Although oxygen is not toxic, enrichment of the oxygen concentration in the air significantly increases the flammability of the environment.
- Pressure regulator: Use only a pressure regulator specifically certified for Oxygen.
- Golden Rule for Oxygen: Oxygen and grease/oil are a lethal combination. Ensure your hands, tools, and cylinder connections are completely free of any trace of grease.
